Slumdog Polar Bear: The Movie

New movies come out nearly every day. Good movies show up every few months. Classics appear once in a great, great while. Ladies and Gentleman, I think we have a new classic on our hands. Slumdog Polar Bear hits all the right notes: music score, acting, cinematography, script, film editing, you name it. And the Knucademy knows it too. This fine film garnered 12 nominations. No award category left untouched.
What else would you expect when your star is everyone’s favorite “It Bear,” Eisbär Knut? This Ursus Maritimus Cuteous Maximus has charisma oozing from every pore in his fine furry form. From his first public appearance in March 2007 he has captured the hearts and minds of fans the world over. His daily antics continue to amuse and he proves right at home whether acting in a comedy, drama or action movie.
In Slumdog Polar Bear, our hero faces trying times. Against a backdrop of a worldwide economic collapse, the bear himself is quickly growing bigger and stronger….too big for his current space. He will need a new enclosure very soon and devoted fans are anxious. His loyal followers stand divided about his future. No one can agree on what is best and tension mounts as the the bear’s original blog is forced to close. Zoo officials and administrators seem to disagree as well. While the bear seems happy and playful, nervous anticipation grows amongst the humans.
Enter Günther Philbin, polar bear lover and quiz show host. Just as the tension builds to a near-breaking point, Günther proposes an idea. At first, he is ridiculed for it but some bright young minds at the national television network see the possibility. Game show “Who Wants to be a Polar Bear” is born. The format: The show invites contestants to answer a series of trivia questions. The grand prize: the chance to live in the zoo, receive daily feedings from the zookeepers, pose for photographs and entertain the crowds…even have the adoration of a worldwide devotees with multiple websites…just like Knut! The catch? The contestants have to pay to be on the show. This ingenious idea will help raise funds for the bear’s future. The formula surpasses everyone’s expectation as contestants arrive in droves, money in hand. What follows is a madcap adventure and heartwarming tale with an unexpected twist at the end.
While the storyline of Slumdog Polar Bear may sound silly and trite, the film is constructed with the refinement and taste you would expect of director Danny Toyle. The timeless themes appeal to movie lovers across all demographics. The pacing is pitch perfect. The viewer is unable to stay off the edge of their seats, take their hand off their heart or close their gaping jaw for the entire 2 hour duration. That, my friends, is the sign of a movie classic we’ll be watching for generations to come.
6 stars out of 5.

Hi Bets…wonderful job! Hey! Why stop at Günther Philbin? Why not go all the way to the top and contact Angela Merkel? Hopefully she already knows about Knut’s plight and could pull strings?
In case anyone wonders who posted the note above, it is my very own mother!
Shirley Paul, How wonderful to read your comment here! I’m glad you’re one of KWM readers, too! Welcome to the Knutian world!
Hi Betsy D. & Company —
I just happened upon breaking news of Slumdog Polar Bear, only to hear that Slumdog Polar Bear was feted with 8 out of possible 10 Oscbears for outstanding efforts in the movie kingdom. Now, Knuti has 8 facsimile polar statuettes to adorn his cave, twirl around in his jute-sacks or to toss and play with as new toys. I just hope that the Oscbear statuettes arrive safely at zoo Berlin to Knuti’s enclosure, as a trusted friend had to make acceptance for them due to Knuti’s prior commitments. I know, I know, Knuti is a VBPB [very busy polar bear].
A fantastic read !!!
BH’s, Tish
Tish, do you think Knut is disappointed that the statuettes don’t squeak?
Betsy — Hihihi, maybe some or all of them do squeak! Hihihi, maybe along with having their faux gold color, they are actually edible. Wouldn’t Knuti be pleasantly surprised? [I hope the Oscbears have been delivered.]
Tish, I imagine them lying, unceremoniously, at the bottom of his moat. Perhaps he will bring one up now and again to see how well it throws…..Our Knuti is not one to dwell on “the importance” of such material things is he?
