Good evening Dear Ladies, I am glad that we can discuss things openly. And if I overlooked certain information, then I hope that you do not blame me too much or judge me too hard because (a) I do not possess of all the information that you can have and (b) German is not my mother tongue. And therefore, herewith an attempt to clarify my opinion (of course, it goes without saying that none of you is obliged to agree, but just give it a minute of your time and thoughts):
1. The governmental subsidies for Zoo and Tierpark Berlin: I admit that in first instance, I overlooked this information (thank you Ludmila for drawing my attention to this). I can to a certain extent understand and agree that there might be a solid ground to ask for justification about the use of these monies. But nevertheless, if I am allowed to make a comparison between Antwerp and Berlin:
- Zoo and Tierpark Berlin are receiving on – apparently according to the article – an annual basis, subsidies in the aggregate amount of about EURO 7 mio. Well, Zoo Antwerp is receiving the same amount also on an annual basis, but with this understanding that Zoo Antwerp is maybe one fifth of the size of Zoo Berlin and hosting about 5.000 animals (not species, bear that in mind).
- I do not know how many visitors in total Zoo and Tierpark are having on an annual basis, but Zoo Antwerp was having a top year in 2009 thanks to our little Kai-Mook, in other words, there were then 1,1 mio visitors in Zoo Antwerp. What is the normal number for Berlin on an average year????
2. With regard to the article in Tagesspiegel (thank you Barbara, it was the first time I saw this article), and more particularly with regard to the merchandising opportunities in Zoo and Tierpark Berlin: as Barbara clearly stated: it was dating back from mid 2008. If I understood its contents well, then I see that there is a blame towards Dr. Blaszkiewitz for not taking all profits of the celebrity of Knut. However, we may not forget that at that moment, Knut was NOT yet belonging to Zoo Berlin, that only came to an end in June 2009. As such, Zoo nor Tierpark Berlin could start whatever merchandising project because the young bear was not the property of zoo Berlin. Furthermore, if I read that these projects might have cost between 80 to 200 mio EURO and then considering the subsidies, I can fully understand Dr. Blaszkiewitz reluctance to start with these projects. And sorry, even Knut brought only 8 mio EUR NET PROFIT in 2008. And again, according to me, it makes no sense to get entirely bankrupt, there are a lot of animals to feed and there are a lot of staff members trying to earn a decent pay.
3. With regard to the old cat story: sorry, I hereby refrain from posting my private opinion, because that seems to be a Berlin problem and as such, I am not the right person to comment on that, and – again according to me – was irrelevant.
4. With regard to Frau Hammerling (sorry, my umlaut doesn’t work): we may not forget that she is a politician. Of course, she wants to know the “secret” plans of Zoo Berlin with respect to Knut. I am quite convinced that she is not an idiot and knows everything about the general interest and love of a lot of people for Knut. And imagine that she would know one single detail: I can tell you that she will bring it out immediately in big CAPITALS in every German newspaper. But most probably not in the interest of the young bear, but only for her own electoral profits.
Well, I am not asking whoever to like Dr. Blaszkiewitz, but for me, he has been so far the only person who took a clear and fair position with regard to Knut. And so far, we all know that Knut is taking good care off by his keepers. And this could not be done if they were not supported by the management.
Dear All, since I will visit Zoo Berlin again and leaving tomorrow morning very early, I will not be able to read here and therefore wish you all a great weekend.

Hey, Knut, you get so many visitors within the next days 
I have a big time prob but I hope to meet some of you in Zoo, Mervi, Patrizia, patrica roberts etc. Wish you a nice trip to Bearlin and wish you a good time. Weather isn´t bad, sun, some rain, clouds and temperatures around 18 to 20°C at day. And: Many stores open at Sunday from 13 to 18 h, because its the weekend with the 50th IFA here in Bearlin, IFA - The leading trade show for consumer electronics and home appliances, the largest in world.

Guten Abend an alle Knut Freunde. Und wieder sind es die aktuellen Fotos vom Eisbären Youngster die so viel Freude bereiten. Die Fotos auf denen er dicht an der Scheibe ist sind einfach hinreißend. So ist er , der Knut. Seit Giovanna weg ist wirkt er von Tag zu Tag ausgelassener, ja übermütiger. Sehr zur Freude der viele Besucher.
Ich wünsche Allen einen schönen Abend und eine gute Nacht. Für Morgen wünsche ich schon jetzt einen hoffentlich guten Tag.

I do not want to comment about everything what you wrote. For me the story with a cat has fundamental significance. There was no need for such cruelty. It is very important indication about a person. I have no respect and no confidence for him.
The zoo is a public institution. It is not allowed to have the secrets from land Berlin.
I do not know why you connect the statements of Frau Hämmerling with Knut. There is no word about Knut in article.

P.S.: Beim Blättern im Tagesspiegel fand ich unter dem über das Riesenrad-Aus, den ich nicht kannte, den sehr bedenkenswerten Vorschlag eines Stammbesuchers das Gelände dem Zoo zurückzugeben.

maybe you should stop to judge where you cannot know anything, because being far away from Berlin, you were not able to accompany the situation as constantly as many of us have done over the years.
I have been in contact with Claudia Hämmerling a longtime before Knut even existed, and I can assure you that she has a genuine interest in animals, and like us has tried for a long time (unfortunately with as little success as we do) to improve the keeping of the animals in Zoo and Tierpark.
I wonder if your judgement of Dr.B. has the same background as the one about Claudia Hämmerling.

Heute Morgen hat Knut noch geschlafen. Als er dann aufgestanden ist, fischte er aus dem kleinen Pool noch Möhren von gestern. Dann ging es wieder ins Wasser, wo er den ganzen Vormittag rumtobte.
Unser Kleiner wird langsam ungeduldig und frech. Als es ihm zu lange dauerte, bis jemand den Ball zurück warf, den er auf die Treppe zwischen der Glasscheibe und der Absperrung geworfen hat, brummte er.
Auch heute hat Knut sein Spielzeug immer wieder an der Scheibe gezeigt und seine eigene Knut-Show gemacht.
Der Salat von gestern , der inzwischen noch grüner geworden ist.
Die Stöckchen werden auch immer länger.
Knut schaut zu, wie ein Besucher versucht, den Ball mit einem Greifer aus der Absperrzone zu holen.

von 2007 und 2008.
Habe mich schon mit Uli S. in verbindung gesetzt leider sind nicht mehr zu bestellen.
Das wußte ich nicht das es welche gibt.
Schade habe nur das von 2009.
Hoffe es kann mir jemand helfen ???

Hallo,
auch ich melde mich mal wieder zu Wort. Mit Interesse habe ich die Diskussion um Knuts Umzug verfolgt und mir meine Gedanken gemacht. Ich finde es auch befremdlich, den Artikel zu lesen. Demanch soll er gleich mit allen zusammengebracht werden. Irgendwie steige ich da nicht mehr durch. Hoffentlich geht alles gut. Er hat schon mit Gianna eine Frau an seiner Seite gehabt. Nun sollen es gleich drei werden.
Man gut, Knut kann nicht lesen und er weiss nicht, was auf ihn wartet.
Vielen lieben Dank an Monika und SylviaMickey für die schönen Fotos der letzten Tage. Sie sind wieder einmalig.BirgitBorn, auch Deine Bilder sind wieder wunderbar. Danke fürs Einstellen.
Doris, ich hoffe, Du bist wieder wohlbehalten aus der Klinik zurück. Falls Du noch im Krankenhaus bist, dann auch von mir Gute Besserung und werde bald wieder gesund. Knut braucht Dich!!!
